Full Description

Site of a Bronze Age bowl barrow on the ridge to the south of Black Down. The barrow is visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs. {1}

One of 11, bowl barrow, 67ft. in diam and 4ft. high (RCHM).

‘(9) Barrows, forming a group of eleven, are ½ to ¾ m. N. of the church … (b) bowl barrow, 190 yards E.S.E. of (a), is 67 ft. in diam. and 4 ft. high.’

Now reduced and spread by ploughing 1.0m high and 24.5m in diameter. The mound was composed of a darker soil than that of the surrounding field. Three fragments of limestone were visible in the mound. There was no visible trace of the ditch. The mound is still visible a a prominent rise in the field which has been newly ploughed and sown with grass. 1/3/C
