Full Description
Lynchets, in two groups each of four terraces, lie on a SE slope 1/4 mile N of Kingston Russell House. <1>
Areas of medieval type strip lynchets. Visible on air photographs CPE/UK/1824 4285-6:
A. Centred SY 57398995. Four grass covered widely spaced strip lynchets, set in an E-W direction, and averaging 1.3m high.
B Centred SY 57928996. A series of very mutilated grass covered strip lynchets set in an E-W direction. The lynchets are regularly spaced and parallel.
C. Centred SY 58108979. A series of much mutilated grass covered strip lynchets, intermittent, but regularly spaced and parallel.
D. Centred SY 57408987. Four E-W lynchets in a grass field. The lynchets are widely spaced and average 1.5m high. <2>
A system of medieval strip fields with associated ridge and furrow is visible as earthworks on aerial photograph to the north of Kingston Russel House. The site was digitally plotted during the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project. <3-4>
