Full Description
Payne's Place was the ancient seat of the Payne family who held lands at Motcombe in 1455. All that remained in Hutchins time (1779) was an old gateway and some of the offices. <1>
The present house appears to be completely modern and bears a date-stone - 1851. The farm buildings seem to be contemporary and no visible remains of the medieval building were found during field investigation. <4>
Payne's Place is a Gothic style building of two storeys and attic built in 1851. <3>
