A Bronze Age bowl barrow at Black Down.

Full Description

A bowl barrow, part of a loose scatter of barrows. Listed by RCHME as Kingston Russell 6j and by Grinsell as Kingston Russell 7, it is located immediately adjacent to the probable bank barrow. Ordnance Survey field investigation in 1955 described it as a ditchless mound 12 metres in diameter and 0.5 metre high. <1-3>

Site of a Bronze Age bowl barrow at Black Down. The site is visible as earthworks and cropmarks on aerial photographs. <7-9>

Mound, much disturbed but probably a bowl barrow, 35ft. In diam and 2.5ft. High. There is a wide sinking in the middle.

‘(6) GROUP OF BARROWS between the 500 and 600 ft. contours on or near the top of a ridge to the W. of Black Down and ¾ m. N.E. of Kingston Russell House. … (j) mound, much disturbed but probably a bowl barrow, 110 yards S.E. of (e), is 35 ft. in diam. and 2½ ft. high; there is a wide sinking in the middle.’
