Summary

Earthwork remains of an Iron Age or Romano-British field system. Ploughing has reduced the earthworks to broad low lynchets averaging 11metres in width and 0.6 metres in height.

Full Description

(Centred SY 651964). Field system taken from air photographs by R Atkinson in 1949. (1)

Centred SY 651964. An Iron Age/Romano-British type field system within the area delineated by Authy 1. Well defined lynchets and field banks forming rectinlinear fields are visible in area SY 655963. At SY 648969 and SY 657968 only fragmentary remains of lynchets are visible, and at SY 645965 and SY 657965 there are no traces at all. (2)

'Celtic' field systems are well defined in areas SY 648966 and SY 655964 on air photographs.

Elsewhere within the delineated area (Authy 1) they are vague or indistinct. (3)

Field system reduced to broad low lynchets averaging 11.0m wide and 0.6m high. (4)
