Summary

A house built in the eighteenth century. In 1827 the house was bought by Thomas Collins Colfox, a prominent Unitarian, merchant and Alderman of Bridport. After his death in 1835 the house was enlarged and altered by his widow. The building has brick walls, the front covered in stucco. Striking featurs of the interior are reported to be a mid-19th century staircase with an elaborate cast iron balustrade, and terracotta roundels painted with neo-Grecian scenes.

Full Description

Detached house of 18th century. Appears on Hutchins map (1774), but described as "lately erected" in 1786. Bought by Thomas Collins Colfox, the prominent Bridport Unitarian, merchant and Alderman of the early Cl9), in 1827. After his death in 1835 it was "considerably altered and enlarged" by his widow, who died in 1858. Stucco front. Painted brick to road end. 2 storeys. <3>
