Listed Building record MDO12065 - Priory Mills weaving shop, 1 Priory Lane, Bridport

Former ancillary mill building at Priory Mills. It is a three storey stone building built c. 1838. Originally it may have been a workshop for hand loom weavers and was later converted into a powered weaving shop.

Former ancillary mill building of Priory Mills. This building lies to the east of the main building and is a three-storeyed stone building of seven bays and a pitched slate roof. It was probably built in 1837-1839, contemporary with the main mill building. It has small windows, some with intact glazing bars, six ranges to on the west and seven on the east: on the top storey the windows are in alternate bays. The south end is rendered and it is possible the building has been shortened. (1) (2) (3)

Internally, this building has conventional joisted floors and steam-powered shafting was inserted into the ground floor in 1851 (4). Originally this building may have been a workshop for hand loom weavers or a warehouse (2). It was converted into a Youth Hostel, but is now used as a store.
