Full Description

18th/early 19th century, refronted in mid-19th century. Stucco. Nos 41 and 43 are 17th century and have cob walls. Pitched slate roofs. Red brick stacks. Two storeys. Six windows on 1st floor, three with glazing bars, and three with shouldered architraves. Nos 45 and 47 have rusticated quoins. No 41 has door with flush panels, panelled reveals and soffit, shopfront with moulded cornice, turned glazing bars and oblong, fanlight over reeded transom. No 43 has shopfront with moulded cornice, timed glazing bars and panelled pilasters. Some sashes with marginal glazing bars in rears Rear of No 45 was a smithy and retains floor of herringbone brickwork and stone setts. Rear of No 49 has rubble extension with stone slate roof and tall red brick stack. Nos 37 to 47 (odd), the Unitarian Chapel, the Public Library, and Nos 53 to 57 (odd) form a group. <2>
