Monument record MDO118 - Bowl barrow on Eggardon, Askerswell

Please read our .

Summary

A Bronze Age bowl barrow lying inside the Iron Age hillfort on Eggardon. In 1952 this monument was reported as being around 42 feet in diameter with a mound about 4½ feet high. The mound is damaged, having been excavated by George Rybot 1963-66. He found the remains of at least five Deverel-Rimbury urns and one collared urn; one of these contained cremated bone, and is presumably the remains of a cremation burial.
