Full Description
Part of a planned Georgian development instigated by Samuel and William Downe, who laid out the street in 1792-1795. Nos. 3-13 (odd) Downes Street is a terrace of three-storey red brick houses, erected piecemeal but in a matching style woth stone plinths and a matching band at second floor height. The entrances are grouped in pairs with 6-panelled doors and semicircular fanlights. The windows are sashes with concealed sash boxes. There are very small yards behind (1)
No. 13 was the final house to be built at the northern end of the terrace and was a two-bay house with a façade matching the others in the terrace. The north elevation is more industrial in character, built of stone rubble with loading doors on first and second floors and a dovecote in the gable. (1)
