Monument record MDO1118 - Second World War, Type 25 pillbox, East Fleet, Fleet

A World War II type 25 pillbox located at Sea Barn, East Fleet. It has a round hexagonal plan, is constructed of reinforced concrete and corrugated iron shuttering and was built in 1940-41. A field visit in 1992 found it to be in a good condition.

A Second World War Type 25 pillbox built with corrugated iron shuttering is visible on aerial photographs taken at East Fleet in 1984 (2, 3). It is also visible on the most recent aerial photograph coverage available to the project (4, 5). This site was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).

'On the land side of the Fleet. Round in shape, with three embrasures covering the Fleet. Approximately 8ft in diameter, and concrete built. In good condition.'
