Summary

A World War II type 22 pillbox located at Sea Barn, East Fleet. It was constructed in 1940-41, is hexagonal on plan and built of concrete. A field visit in 1996 found the pillbox to be partly buried but in a good condition. The pillbox is visible on aerial photographs taken at East Fleet in 1984.

Full Description

Hexagonal type 22 pillbox, partly buried. [Shown on OS 1:2500 sheet SY 6279 - 6379 (1959)].Sea Barn, East Fleet. <2-4>

A partly buried Second World War Type 22 pillbox (hexaganal) is visible on aerial photographs taken at East Fleet in 1984 <4>. It is also visible on the most recent aerial photograph coverage available to the project <6-7>. This site was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).

'On the land side of the Fleet. Hexagonal with four small embrasures covering the Fleet. Approximately 13ft across, and brick built with a concrete roof. In good condition.'
