Full Description

(SY 63558019) Strip lynchets, average 1.0m high, parallel to the contours along the south-western slopes of a hill. Below the lynchets and at right angles to the contours is a series of low field banks. <2>

The strip lynchets are clearly visible on air photographs in area SY 63558019. <3>

These prominent strip lynchets survive as described by authority 2. Three low field banks are visible below them, but they are of different character and not at all prominent. <4>

Seen on an AP of 1970. <5>

The medieval strip lynchets described above were digitally plotted from aerial photographs {6} as part of the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project. NE-SW orientated field boundaries with associated ridge and furrow cultivation were also identified to the north of the prominent strip lynchets. <6>
