Full Description

Puncknowle Manor House is of two storeys; the walls are of rubble and the roofs are slate-covered. It was built probably in the 16th century when the property belonged to the Napper family. It was altered in the 17th century and the back wing was rebuilt in modern times. The E. front has original windows of three elliptical-headed lights with labels. In the middle is a two-storeyed porch with flanking staircases in the same building; the outer archway has moulded jambs and round head with a label; above it is a window similar to those in the main front, and at a lower level at the sides are two single-light windows to the staircases. There are other original windows in the N. and S. ends similar to those in front. In the wall between the garden and the churchyard is a stone four-centred door-head with a panel bearing a defaced 17th century date <2> or the date 1506 <3>.

The name Manor House is correct. The house is in an excellent state of repair and preservation. The main entrance to the 16th century block faces the east. <4>
