Summary

A detached house of seventeenth-century date, with eighteenth-century additions and alterations and a date stone with inscription ‘R I R 1738’. The north wing has retained more of its seventeenth-century appearance. The building has walls of dressed stone with stone buttresses, and a thatched roof.

Full Description

The N. block of the farm-house was built in the 17thc. The S. wing with E & W gables c.1738. <2>

The farm is known as YONDOVER FARM. I know nothing of its history <3.1>. A well preserved stone built farmhouse which lacks external features of dateable antiquity. A datestone in the South wall reads RIB 1738. <3>

'The following monuments, unless otherwise described, are of the 17th century and of two storeys ; the walls are of rubble and the roofs are covered with thatch or modern materials. Some of the buildings have exposed ceiling-beams and original fireplaces. … (12) Yondover Farm, 620 yards E.S.E. of the church, has walls of roughly coursed rubble. The north block was built in the 17th century. The south wing with E. and W. gables with flat copings and shaped kneelers has a panel with the initials and date “R.B. 1738”.'
