Full Description

(ST 48930560) Manor Farm (NAT) (1)

Manor farmhouse is two storeyed, of stone with tiled roofs. It was built in the 16th century, but was much altered and enlarged in the 17th century when the west front was remodelled and the porch
added. This front has 17th century stone-mullioned windows, the lower ones with moulded labels; the doorway of the porch is similar, and above is a penel with the name and date 'Thomas Warren 1674'. There are doorways with four-centred heads in the side walls of the porch. Some original windows remain at the back. Inside the building, the middle room has original moulded ceiling beams, and there is a pannelled partition in the south wing. (2-3)

"The house is known as Manor Farm I believe that it was originally a manor house, although it no longer carries Manorial rights. It has had very few alterations, and until 1936 the original roof
was in situ.

The datestone is '1634'; not '1674'. (4)

The description as given by Authorities 2 and 3 is correct except for the date of 1674 which is in the west face of the house. It could not be deciphered at the time of field investigation, but both Mr. Roberts and his wife were quite positive of the date as 1634. (5)

Manor Farmhouse with attached barn at rear. Both Grade II*. (6-7)
