Full Description

Church of St Mary, originally a hermitage. The Hermitage of Blackmoor appears to have been a loose association of persons following the role of St Augustine but not formally adhering to any regular order, which died out in the latter part of the C14th. <1>

The church of St Mary is puzzling as it has a distinct C17th flavour but no records point to such a date, and the date of building is actually given as 1800. The nave and chancel windows are Decorated, are (Perpendicular) but all are as if remodelled later. <2>

Church of St Mary. The simple plan of nave, chancel and South porch is possibly of C14th origin, with much restoration in the C17th (possibly 1682) and rebuilding of ca.1800. Grade II*. <4>
