Full Description

(SY 69979061) East Mills, 130 yards east north east of St George's Church, Fordington, was built in the late 18th century but incorporates a 16th century carved panel inscribed WC 1590. No doubt the panel was originally set on the house of the Churchill family at Fordington, long since demolished. The mill has now been converted into flats. Listed as Fordington Mill . <1> <4>

Mill (Fordington) (SY 700905) probably on or near the site of Estmull mentioned in 1422 Court Rolls and 'Luttshill also East Mill' referred to in 1615 (a). It is probable that 'the fulling mill' and 'the abbot of Bindon's mill mentioned in 1349, refers to the mill later known as 'east mill'. Other early references to a mill or mills here include 'molendinum de Fordinton' in 1199-1230 Pipe Rolls. <3>
