Description

Poole Museum excavated a site on the west side of Thames Street between August 1974 and January 1975 in advance of redevelopment. The site was divided into two areas: Area I on the street frontage was fully excavated and Area II to the rear of the property was prone to flooding and only salvage excavation took place. The excavation revealed the remains of a 10th-12th century oyster midden, 14th century reclamation deposits, a substantial 15th century building demolished in the 16th century and replaced by new town houses along the street frontage.
