Description

Poole Museum excavated an area to the west and southwest of the Station Hotel, Sterte Road, Poole in September-October 1976. This was on the line of the medieval town ditch. The excavation succeeded in finding the southern edge of the ditch, but a full section through it was not possible. The ditch was over two metres deep and filled with dark sandy material. A number of stakes pointed at both ends were recovered from the ditch fills. No trace of any defences behind the ditch were found. (1)
