Description

H G Burr '…dug a trial pit on the east side of Tinker's Lane, almost opposite 20 West Walls, and revealed the east-west section of a pit or ditch at a depth of 5.5ft, dug down in gravel and sand to a depth of 11ft from the surface. The pottery from 8-9 ft down was…in the Iron Age 'C' tradition…There were also some pieces of worked shale. At 11ft one sherd of rough pottery, apparently haematite coated, was found.' [1]
