Description

One of two bowl barrows on Knowle Hill excavated in 1861 by the Reverend J H Austen. This barrow contained a crouched burial at the centre and some two feet below the top of the mound. Austen also noted a deposit of black ashes "close at the back of the skeleton and extending beneath it".
