Description
Wessex Archaeology was commissioned by Bournemouth Borough Council to evaluate three small areas on Hengistbury Head in April 2002. This work represented the third stage of evaluation undertaken as part of an Environmental Impact Assessment in advance of the submission of planning proposals for the sitting of a new Outdoor Education Centre.
Three trenches were excavated; two measuring 5m by 2m on the north side of the Broadway where it was proposed to site a bus turning circle and one T-shaped trench measuring 10m by 1.5m just to the east of the entrance to the existing car park to investigate the possibility of archaeological remains surviving along the roadside and beneath a bund.
No archaeological features, finds or deposits were recorded.
