Description

Machine excavation of two geotechnical trial pits on land to the rear of Wareham Post Office in September 2002 was observed by AC archaeology. Both pits measured 2m by 1m in plan, and were excavated to a depth of around 3m. Part of a brick-lined well was encountered in Trial Pit 1, which revealed deep occupation soils 2.2m thick. No features were noted in Trial Pit 2, where the occupation soil revealed was 500mm thick. No finds were recovered from either trial pit.
