Description

Wessex Archaeology was commissioned to undertake an archaeological evaluation at the rear of 5 South Street in connection with a planning application (6/97/0744). Three test pits 1m by 1m were excavated by hand, down to natural deposits or 0.6m from the surface, this being the depth of the proposed raft foundations. A short length of undated limestone wall, and sub-soil horizons containing thirteenth-century pottery were recorded.
