EWX2195 - Preston Sewerage Scheme, Weymouth; evaluation 2002

Archaeological evaluation of part of the proposed route of a rising water main in an area to the south of the Preston Roman villa. The work comprised a single trench measuring 2x4m in plan, located on a possible feature identified during an earlier evaluation exercise. No significant archaeological features were identified. One pit and two linear features of post-medieval to modern date were recorded. Residual flint material of prehistoric date, which the excavators felt may have been Mesolithic, was recovered. The overlying soil horizon contained abraded Mesolithic, Romano-British and medieval material.
