Description
Wessex Archaeology carried out a watching brief in July 1994, during landscaping works to construct a new playing field at Bearwood Primary School. Traces of at least three linear ditches were recorded and traces of several other features were observed during machine strip by heavy plant, though were unfortunately truncated and / or impacted during the soil strip and could therefore not be planned or investigated. A small quantity of Late Bronze Age pottery was recovered from one of the ditches. These ditches appear to be part of a wider field system, further elements of which were discovered by previous and subsequent work on the site, which suggest this field system may date from the Late Bronze Age to the Romano-British period.
