Description
Observations and recording of the upper 1m of deposits revealed by boreholes in the area of the previous evaluation. In the course of this work excavation of service trenches in the churchyard revealed human remains and arrangements for observations were extended to include these trenches and groundworks. No artefacts were recovered from the boreholes. Articulated human remains were encountered in service trenches in the churchyard. These appeared to be complete articulated skeletons aligned east-west, in some cases with decayed coffin material, but it was otherwise difficult to discern grave cuts. At least ten graves were recorded. The graves followed the pattern of existing marked graves and respected the overall grave layout. Coffin fittings indicated that the majority were of post-medieval date.
