Description

Poole Museum Service Archaeological Unit carried out a watching brief during the development of 12 West Quay Road in 1994. The observations recorded eighteenth century reclamation deposits, below which was an earlier soil containing charcoal and briquetage beneath which two brine-boiling hearths and a ditch associated with large quantities of briquetage from Fitzworth troughs and props, etc. These form part of a Roman salt manufacturing site, the full extent of which was not determined.
