Description

Two trenches excavated by hand on the site of a proposed new garage block revealed a topsoil 50 to 200mm deep on top of redeposited make-layers 150mm deep. Below this was a buried soil horizon of post-medieval/modern date above undisturbed natural sand and gravel. No archaeological features or finds earlier than modern were observed.
