Description

Poole Museum Service carried out a watching brief during the construction of a new office extension to the rear of 40-42 High Street, Poole in September and October 1996. This revealed a sequence of dark soils containing building material and a number of structural remains of cellars, possibly a property boundary and house walls. These were undated but were thought to be 16th century in date, contemporaneous with the extant neighbouring buildings. Unstratified finds included domestic pottery of Donyatt and Verwood type and Dutch imports of 17th/18th century date. (1)
