Description

During the construction of the Turlin Moor - Poole pipeline in July 1985, the pipe trench cut through a Romano-British saltworking site to the south of Upton House and was recorded by Poole Museums Service. The site comprised a layer of red briquetage, an oven filled with briquetage, a pit and a ditch within a 40 m length of the pipe trench. A small amount of pottery from the site suggested a late 1st-early 2nd century date.
