Description

Archive ref.: Thurnam Skull Catalogue No. 131, Anglo-Saxon or Early English from a grave on the Down at Knowle..exhumed...in 1859. Inhumation burials were found in 1859 in a road cutting and adjoining areas. The burials were in parallel chalk-cut graves, lying east-west with the head at the west, and interpreted as being of probable Roman date.
