Description
OASIS: In March 2015 BUARC, Bournemouth University's archaeological field unit, were commissioned by Holton Holmes Ltd to undertake an archaeological watching brief during the groundworks for the development of three town houses and parking on land at the junction of Blandford Road and Norton Way, Poole, Dorset. The works covered an area of approximately 128 square meters and were carried out in two phases. The first phase comprised groundworks associated with ground clearance including the removal of concrete footings. Excavation of the footings was monitored on 02/04/15 under archaeological supervision and was recorded to a maximum depth of c1.10m partially exposing natural geology and late post medieval layers. This was carried out prior to the main groundworks for foundations. The foundation trenches for the proposed were carried out between 20/4/15 - 22/4/15. Post-medieval layers of made ground and previous soil horizons and one large modern pit feature were observed towards the west extent of site. Natural geology was not observed during this phase of excavation with a maximum trench depth recorded at 0.75m.
