Description

Monitoring of groundworks to natural chalk or the construction level and a small test pit in the south-east corner of the site confirmed a lack of archaeological features and deposits, and revealed widespread disturbance across the site. A series of modern postholes indicated a modern structure, possibly associated with the known military use of this area. The archaeologists on site felt that, given the depth of the hillfort ditches recorded during earlier works, it remains possible that some deeper features such as the outer ditch, survive beneath the remaining made ground.
