Description

Excavations by Norman Field and Mr K C Jehan at the entrance to the chancel. An area of 77 square feet was excavated, revealing a thin layer of powdery mortar on natural river gravel. A few scraps of tile were found in the mortar layer, none worthy of description. Excavators concluded that the whole of the tiled floor had been removed. Excavations also uncovered a grave orientated east-west and midway between the flanking walls of the Chancel.
