Description

OASIS: Archaeological monitoring and recording was undertaken during groundworks associated with the extension of existing flood defence embankments at Wick, Bournemouth, Dorset, between November 2014 and January 2015. Despite the known archaeological context of the area no deposits or artefacts of archaeological significance were encountered or recorded during monitoring and recording. This is largely due to the shallow nature of the intrusive works. During topsoil removal, however, a concrete structure was revealed which is believed to be of modern origin. In addition, the maintenance and clearance of historic bed works in the adjacent water meadows allowed a partial appraisal of these historic landscape features.
