Description

An archaeological evaluation, consisting of the excavation and recording of one 3m x 1m trial trench was undertaken by AC Archaeology Ltd at land to the rear of 1 South Terrace, Dorchester. Deposits and features of a post-medieval and modern date were revealed within the trench, extending to a depth of approximately 2.5m below the existing ground surface; identified by augering below the maximum reach of the digger and at the limit of safe working. The site appears to lie on the line of a former coombe or terrace that was infilled after the medieval period. Deposits of a medieval and/or Romano-British date may lie on the site at a greater depth.
