Description

The investigations consisted of the machine-excavation of three trenches, their positions largely dictated by the presence of chicken pens and a vegetable plot on the site. The total length of the trenches was 47m, each 1.m wide. The trench evaluation demonstrated that there is fairly extensive archaeological deposits present across the southernmost extent of the proposed application area. Much of this evidence is of post-medieval origin and probably associated with former farm buildings on the site, which included a large barn. Evidence for archaeological activity of pre- 18th/19th date was limited and only present in Trench 2. None of the archaeological deposits are of more than low archaeological significance.
