Description

Observations and recording by Terrain Archaeology during groundworks for a new fence between SZ16078250 and SZ1608492537. Groundworks consisted of the hand excavation of 28 postholes for the new fencing; each of the holes about 0.25 m across and 0.5 m deep, and a hole for a gate post dug to 0.7 m deep. This exposed disturbed soils of probable nineteenth- and twentieth-century date, containing few finds. The only feature of note was a flat dressed limestone slab covering a void just south of the Lady Chapel. This was thought to be part of a grave or vault, but this was not certain.
