Description
In July 2022 Thames Valley Archaeological Services undertook an evaluation of a site proposed for residential development by Imperial Homes (WP/20/00421/FUL). The evaluation consisted of three trenches, each 20m long and between 1.60m amd 2m wide, dug by machine under archaeological supervision. Despite the proximity of the site to known archaeology including a Roman temple, villa and cemetery, only one undated gully was observed. No finds of Roman date were recovered; modern rubble and waste material predominated, suggesting that the site had been disturbed during nearby development of housing at Overcombe Drive and construction of an electricity substation.
