Description
The route of the new waste pipe to the west of the tower crossed ground previously disturbed by an electricity trench. A new inspection chamber was excavated by hand; this showed that burials seen elsewhere did not extend close to the church, this area being heavily disturbed. The rest of the pipe route underneath the path and an additional inspection chamber south-south-west of the tower revealed a simple sequence of modern topsoil over disturbed subsoil, directly above a deep soil containing human remains. No grave cuts were noted along the trench. The archaeologists on site noted that the very narrow pipe trench made observation difficult. Burials were recorded in the inspection chamber.
