Description
In 1984 a trial trench was excavated by Oxford University, cutting into the rear face of the rampart of the Double Dykes at its extreme north end where it was in the marshland of Wickams. The aim was to examine the relationship between the earthwork and the stages of marsh formation. The bank was relatively slight at this point and was built on a surface now about 1.05m below present ground surface. No dating evidence was recovered.
