Description

Observations and recording by Terrain Archaeology during footpath and cycleway improvement works on the western side of the Roman town defences at the junction of Princes Street and Albert Road. Works were very shallow and no sign of the defences was observed. The remains of cast iron posts were found, probably erected around the time that the Borough Gardens were opened in 1896. The position of these posts suggested about 0.5m of modern build up since the late nineteenth century.
