Description

Archaeological evaluation revealed Roman activity on the site in the form of clay-lined 'fire pits' and briquetage and at least one linear cut feature. This was interpreted as the probable remains of Roman saltworking with brine boiling hearths. 18th-century pottery and clay pipe fragments were also recovered from the upper layers of the evaluation trenches.
