Description
Archaeological evaluation of a site for which outline planning permission had been granted for up to 112 homes and two access points from Wimborne Road. The evaluation comprised the machine excavation of seventeen trenches, each approximately 30m long by 1.6m wide, and equivalent to around 4% of the proposed development area of 2.6ha. Limited evidence of archaeological remains was found. A small pit with one piece of Romano-British pottery in its filling was recorded in Trench 4, and a small quantity of burnt clay was recovered from the same trench. Several shallow linear features were recorded but could not be dated. A small assemblage of worked flint of Neolithic date was recovered from topsoil across the site.
