Description
Further archaeological evaluation of an area of approximately 3.7ha on the crest of a hill where earlier archaeological work had revealed evidence of possible prehistoric activity. Nine evaluation trenches approximately 30m by 1.6m were dug by machine, exposing a deposit sequences generally comprised silt clay topsoil above a layer of clay over natural clays. In one trench (Trench 10) colluvial silt deposits were recorded. A small tree-throw in Trench 11 contained a significant quantity of prehistoric worked flint and a worked stone. In Trench 18 a shallow cut, possibly a medieval hedgeline, crossed the trench. A number of modern land drains were noted.
