Description

An evaluation comprising the excavation by machine of a trench 18.2m by 1.5m and 1.5m to 2.2m deep running diagonally across a site proposed for the building of two semi-detached houses. A series of layers of redeposited chalk rubble was recorded. These contained 18/19th-century finds and some Roman maerial, and were interpreted as the post-medieval infilling of one or more deep features, probably quarry pits. Some evidence of later garden features was found in one part of the trench.
