Description

The report was produced by English Heritage. The survey drew on baseline data from the MPP survey carried out between 1993 and 1998, supplemented with information from the NMR AP archive and aerial photographs taken in the 1990s. The survey comprised the re-assessment of this data together with aerial photographs taken in 2005 and data collected during site visits in 2006. The aim was to identify and complete missing data and records to complete a database of 1033 monuments. Additonal aerial photographs were taken and further site visits carried out. The resulting data was analysed based on an existing model and a category of risk (high, medium, low) assigned to each monument. Monuments described as earthworks were at the greatest risk. The highest risk factors were identified such as arable cultivation, scrub and plant growth, together with the principal management factors affecting the monuments. Suggestions were made as to the future care and maintenance of the monuments.
