Description

Evaluation comprising 49 trenches 25m long and 2m wide (equivalent to 2% of the site area) were excavated across the site, partly in a stratified random pattern and partly located to target anomalies seen in geophysical survey. The results broadly confirmed the geophysical survey results and revealed additional features and deposits. Stray finds of struck flint indicated Mesolithic activity in the area. Scatters of struck flint of Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age date were seen, most in the topsoil, but there were also cut features of this date. Enclosures of earlier Bronze Age and Late Iron Age/early Roman date were revealed.
